Odette Lunettes X Joke Verrelst
‘Glasses are art’ is the title of a large exhibition by Luc Tuymans. And he is right. The object ‘glasses’ has everything in it to be crowned as art. It’s a product that offers vision and perspective to its wearer. A product that reflects the DNA of its owner. One person goes for boldness whereas the other wants to create a more classic look.
Odette Lunettes is inspired by art and artists of our own soil because we were born in Belgium and want to proudly propagate that. We embodied this by for example collaborating with Steve Locatelli, whose works are now sold all over the globe. But also digital art fascinates us. When we launched the ‘Odette Lunettes X Tom Boonen’ sports glasses collab, we also launched three NFT’s to strengthen the cooperation.
Today we are proud to announce our latest collab: ‘Odette Lunettes x Joke Verrelst’. Joke Verrelst is regarded as an emerging talent in the Belgian art world. She creates resin art using homemade cubes to create beautiful mosaic portraits. During our search to find a real “ eye” catcher for the new Odette Lunettes store in Hasselt, we found out about Joke’s art.
Joke starts with transparent components that she will color with self-mixed color pigments, comparable to a painter working with his painting palette. Once the fluid has the desired color, it is poured into a self-designed shape. A chemical reaction causes the liquid to cure. Once that process is over, the thousands of cubes can be removed from their shape one by one.
After that, the hard work starts by laying each cube. The cubes have different heights, giving each work a typical relief. In addition, these “pixels” are all tub-shaped, which allows them to capture and reflect the light back from their center. The work thus presents itself differently depending on the light, both in daylight and in artificial light.
This correlates perfect with the vision eyewear gives you.
